The orange bird is used as a florist's cut flower,and is commonly grown in southern California and Hawaii.




Bird of Paradise ( Strelitzia reginae) is a native of south Africa and one of the most unusual and attractive members of the banana family.This popular tropical plant bears a unique flower which resembles a brightly colored bird in flight, giving it the common name Bird of Paradise. It makes an exceptionally attractive landscape plant. In contrast to the banana, the Bird of Paradise is trunkless. The foliage resembles small banana leaves but has long petioles. Leaves are thick, waxy, and glossy green, making it a very attractive ornamental tropical flower. Leaf blades are 6 inches wide and 18 inches long. The plant usually reaches a height of 4 feet.

CARE FOR ARRANGED BIRDS OF PARADISE

Display in a cool location, out of direct sunlight and away from air vents. Avoid excessively hot or cold areas. Keep the room's temperature above 50°F.

Check water level daily to make sure container is full and add warm water as needed. 
Mist Daily. 
* 
Remove any damaged or dying foliage or flowers. 
* 
Recut 1 inch from flower stems every 4 to 5 days to maintain water uptake. Make sure the cut is angled and not flat so the flower stems do not rest on the bottom of the vase.
